Intermodal Recommended Practices

IANA delivers recommended industry practices and tools to assist in advancing intermodal business efficiencies and supporting professional development.

Intermodal Recommended Practices

Intermodal Recommended Practices, or IRPs, reflect the consensus of the members of the Intermodal Association of North America’s standing committees. IRPs are voluntary practices designed to assist equipment users and providers, vehicle/component manufacturers and other industry suppliers with recommended guidance on the safe and efficient operations, performance, and/or maintenance of intermodal equipment.

These Intermodal Recommended Practices are not exclusive and are offered for general guidance. They do not constitute industry standards or best practices.

Users of the IRPs must exercise independent judgement and satisfy themselves thoroughly that neither the safety of their employees, agents, or other third parties, nor the safety or usefulness of any products, will be jeopardized by any method selected.

IRPs are not intended as, and should not be construed as, an endorsement of any particular person, organization, or product.
